But what all led up to that fine spring of automotive journalism that is Jalopnik kicking us to the curb? My time to enjoy this site has been sadly lacking, and I feel as if I missed something cataclysmic. Also, how does everyone feel about our favorite blog being newly single?
Have a car only a single person (or one with an awesome significant other) could drive.

We broke the embargo. Still hoping this is the AAA league of ‘help Harris describe G-force’ Jalopnikareer.

It has everything to do with editorial things. Blogs getting the jalopnik tag are ones that have gawker employees writing them. Oppo doesn’t have that since it is a user contributed blog.
That’s all. It isn’t them kicking us out. It’s about labeling the blogs properly according to who works at jalopnik.

My understanding was that the split had been contemplated a number of times, but the straw that broke the camels back happened when a post from Observation Deck over at iO9 was reposted to their main page. The write up was largely copied from a post elsewhere and the nasty Spector of plagiarism started creeping in. Much finger pointing happened and about a week later all the sub blogs were split off. I guess it protects Gawker. They can separate their “professional” content from us amateurs.

Hmmmmm interesting.... I always liked the amateur shenanigans better anyway :P

HA! I remember reading that article and saying “where have I read this exact thing and seen these exact pictures before...”
Yeah, dude straight up copied it from Cracked. If this is the solution, then I don’t mind at all.

That was from observation deck? That dude had several posts that weekend. I thought he was the weekend guy.

When it happened several people said that some unidentified person(s) tried claiming to work for Jalopnik based on their oppo posts to get press cars.

That was my understanding, but who knows. Like here, I think they took folks who showed promise and let them post tot the FP, so the article would show up as a repost from O Deck. I'm just going off what I remember and I could be totally wrong.

That’s pretty messed up. . . I can see the conundrum there. Maybe it’s for the best that the split happened.

That makes sense. I remember the article. I don't have any false impressions I'll become good enough at my super amateur posts to rank me high enough to take over on a weekend or even become a pro. But it does put the whole idea of that in jeopardy for those who can/are good enough writers.

It probably is. I just hope it doesn't screw over any good writers in the future.

I love when people invite me to call them idiots. Your wish is my command.
“Hey you...you’re an idiot!!!”
:)
You asked for it. hehehehe.

Here at Oppo I think Travis said there would still be sharing to the FP, but I don't recall if I've seen any lately aside from Lehto.

There's a couple in the mix. There's the LaLD and the mechanic one.

Everyone can use being reminded of their idiocy once in a while.
